I would like to open with a quote:
You want to claim this land as the land of the free? Then the symbol of your country cannot just be a flag. The symbol also has to be one of its citizens exercising his right to burn that flag in protest.
That is a quote from The American President, and I fully agree with the statement. I don’t want you to burn ANY flag, but I believe that it still should be legal as it is a right and it shouldn’t be breached. That would be a suppression of freedom of speech and I wouldn’t stand for it. In the UK it has never (To my knowledge) been illegal and in the US flag burning is protected under the First Amendment. It is legal in many countries and that is right and just. To ‘illegalize’ flag burning would be a huge hit to the foundations of democracy and freedom of speech.
